Watershed Management

The purpose of the current Lake Sunapee Watershed Management Plan (WMP) is to maintain the high quality waters of the lakes, ponds and streams in the watershed and to address ways to improve current water quality in the face of many challenges including continued development and more frequent severe storm events due to climate change. We are currently halfway through our 10-year plan and are making great progress along the way! To learn more about recent projects in the watershed, click here or see below.

Lake Sunapee Watershed 2020-2030 Watershed Management Plan

The main goal of our watershed management plan is to reduce nutrient loading, primarily phosphorus, into Lake Sunapee to avoid a decline in water quality. This plan identified sites where stormwater control measures could be implemented to address erosion and other issues.

Recent Water Quality Improvement Projects

Water quality improvement projects are designed to slow down and infiltrate stormwater runoff. They often involve a collaboration between LSPA and governmental agencies, local towns and private landowners and are completed using a combination of in-kind match, private contributions and grant funding.
