How We Work

If we pollute the air, water and soil that keeps us alive and well, and destroy the biodiversity that allows natural systems to function, no amount of money will save us.
— David Suzuki

LSPA works year-round with the community to maintain the water quality of the streams, lakes and ponds within the Lake Sunapee Watershed. LSPA's educational outreach is to all residents, lake users, students and visitors in the Lake Sunapee region. LSPA has over 1000 family and business members who support LSPA both financially and as volunteers. LSPA volunteers wear numerous hats - as invasive watchers, water monitors and committee members.

LSPA’s programs are designed to bring the world of aquatic environmental information and science to children, students, adults and families. Topics include water quality, watershed science and environmental stewardship.

LSPA actively engages in:

  • Water quality sampling

  • Laboratory analysis of water quality parameters

  • Prevention invasive aquatic species

  • Education programs for children, families and adults

  • Encouraging good watershed stewardship through advisory services

  • Scientific research in partnership with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC)

LSPA's biannual publication, the Beacon, keeps members and the public up-to-date that gets mailed to members. We also publish a monthly e-newsletter called “A Flash of the Beacon” with the latest updates and news from the Harbor.
