LSPA has a long history of setting and maintaining standards of excellence in our water quality testing program. Starting in summer 2006, volunteer water quality monitors take a second set of samples at one site each sampling date. The volunteer and site change each time, so that each date during the sampling season one monitor collects a field duplicate sample.
The duplicate sample is analyzed in the lab along with the regular sample, as another quality control tool that we can use to ensure valid results – by analyzing two samples taken from the same place at the same time we are able to get a better idea of how accurately our data represent actual conditions. The routine collection and analysis of field duplicate samples will further boost the credibility and legitimacy of our entire testing program.
