LSPA’s volunteer weed watch program discovered invasive milfoil in Georges Mills in the summer of 2001. With an all-out response that summer and constant monitoring since, LSPA has controlled the infestation and it remains at 2 acres.
The LSPA weed watch program consists of volunteers and knowledgeable staff who monitor all of Lake Sunapee’s shoreline annually to be on the alert for invasive vegetation. LSPA also supplies neighboring lakes and ponds with advice and equipment for similar programs.
There are two kinds of invasive milfoils: Eurasian and Variable.
