LSPA has been active in follow-ups after the September 12 sewage spill in Georges Mills. LSPA has met with the New London sewer commissioners and selectmen. Executive Director June Fichter and Associate Director Robert Wood sent a lengthy letter to NH Department of Environmental Services (and all other relevant parties) outlining LSPA’s concerns about sewer spills and overflows, monitoring and assessment that should be done, and the need for communication of potential public health threats.
New London Town Manager Jessie Levine has taken the lead in assessing various “reverse 911” systems so that the town (and other are towns) can notify residents in case of an emergency or public health threat like a sewage spill into waters used for drinking. Dennis Pavlicek of Newbury and Donna Nashawaty of Sunapee are collaborating on this investigation.
